Portrait and Figure Painting with a Limited Palette

Workshop Description

The ability to work quickly, and with precision, is key in our development as painters. In this workshop we will develop our intuition and spontaneity with short poses in the morning sessions and our accuracy and likeness with a long poses in the afternoon. Dominique will provide frequent demos, break down the process of painting into clear and consecutive steps, as well as critique and instruction each session.

Since simplicity is one of our goals, we will be using a limited palette of 7 colors. This palette helps us refine our understanding of color theory and color relationships. We will focus on 4 main aspects of a portrait: Proportion, Value, Color, and Edge, Practicing this way over the course of the week will help sharpen our observation, and take our skills to a new level.
